GoodNews Statement of Faith
We believe there is one God in whom there are three eternal, concurrent persons — the Father, the Son who is Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. All three are the One God, coequal in glory and majesty, yet not three Gods or three Persons, and not one person possessing three forms. We believe the Trinity must be understood in faith.
We believe in the person of God the Father, infinite, perfect, and eternal. We believe that He is active in the concerns of humanity, hearing prayers, providing needs, and saving from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ, His Son.
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Word who became flesh, born of a virgin. He is both human and divine—two natures, but not two people. He is not part God and part man, but is fully God and fully man, existing in hypostatic union. We believe Jesus was crucified and died as a substitutionary atonement for our sins and was raised to life on the third day. He will physically return and reign forever.
We believe the mission of the Holy Spirit is to convict the world of sin and to regenerate and sanctify for ministry all who are saved. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer as an abiding helper and guide. The Holy Spirit seals a believer for Salvation when an individual accepts Christ as their Lord and Savior. We believe the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is a separate occurrence from salvation and may occur with salvation, or at a later time. We believe the clearest indication of the Baptism of the Spirit is a life profoundly marked by love and oftentimes the establishment of biblical gifts as the Spirit wills.
We believe the Bible is the Word of God, and that its original manuscripts are free from errors and contradictions. It is the one and only infallible, divinely authoritative, and wholly trustworthy rule for salvation and a life of sanctification. Other texts may prove to be scholastically significant, but are not inspired scripture.
We believe that humankind was created in the image of God but fell from its original sinless state through intentional rebellion and Satan’s deception, resulting in eternal separation from God. Apart from the grace of God human beings cannot will to do anything good, including believing in the deity, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for salvation. The grace of God prepares and enables sinners to receive the free gift of salvation offered only in the gospel of Christ, leading to regeneration by the Holy Spirit unto eternal spiritual life. It is also the grace of God that enables believers to continue in all good deeds. Christ has done all that is needed for our salvation and those who have eternal life will never perish. We believe those who appeared to believe but later renounce their faith never were Christians. God’s grace, manifested in the perseverance of His Holy Spirit, does not mean we have a license to sin, but that we are moved in love to pursue godliness.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of believers to everlasting glorification with the Lord; and of unbelievers to Judgment and eternal damnation. We believe the Lord Jesus will rule forever from His throne and His kingdom will have no end.
